Living Walls for Schools & Universities

Transform schools and universities with living walls, micro forests, and other urban greening solutions that improve wellbeing and air quality in educational spaces.

Creating Healthier Environments For Schools & Universities

When you are responsible for shaping a school site or university campus, you are balancing the need to improve air quality, support student and staff wellbeing, and strengthen biodiversity and ESG performance - all within busy, space-constrained environments. Green infrastructure needs to deliver against these priorities while also being safe, low-disruption to install, and simple to manage.

At Scotscape, we design and deliver a range of urban greening systems including living walls and LivingPillars® that are built around long-term performance and ease of management. From initial design through to installation and ongoing maintenance, we help estates teams reduce complexity, minimise disruption, and ensure systems continue to deliver value year after year.

For over 30 years, we’ve worked with schools, colleges, and universities to increase biodiversity, improve campus environments, and support measurable sustainability outcomes across sites of all sizes.

Living Wall Installations

Living walls are a powerful way for schools and universities to support student wellbeing and demonstrate a visible commitment to biodiversity. Whether installed in classrooms or external façades, they introduce nature into everyday learning environments, helping to create calmer, healthier spaces that can positively impact engagement. At Scotscape, we design and install living walls that are built for long-term performance, while supporting wider net-zero ambitions.

Living Wall Maintenance

Living Wall Maintenance

For schools and universities, a living wall needs to do more than look good; it needs to continue performing throughout the academic year. Scotscape provides ongoing living wall maintenance to keep planting healthy, systems functioning properly, and displays looking their best, reducing disruption for estates teams and helping to protect your investment.

LivingPillars®

LivingPillars® are an innovative way to introduce vertical planting where space is limited, turning everyday structures into striking green features. On school campuses, our LivingPillars® can help add biodiversity and bring nature into high-traffic areas without taking up valuable ground space.

Living Wall Installation for Plymouth University

Scotscape designed, installed, and maintains two living walls for Plymouth University, covering a combined total of 58.5m². The largest wall was installed around the entrance to the university’s Sustainability Hub, where a flexible Fytotextile system was used to follow the curved lines of the building and create a strong visual feature on campus.

The planting plan used a block layout with species selected for both visual impact and suitability to the coastal environment, helping the walls deliver biodiversity value as well as a distinctive green finish!

Living Walls Installed at Parliament Hill School

In 2018, we designed and installed 230m² for Parliament Hill School in Camden to reduce air pollution and improve children’s health. This was paired with a green roof installation to maximise the benefit for the children, and highlights the importance of integrating living walls and urban greening solutions into London’s schools to combat air pollution.

This green infrastructure project was inspired by the planning guidance from Camden Council to create a sustainable environment at the school.
