Creating More Welcoming Environments For Retail & Hospitality

When you are responsible for hotel lobbies, restaurant dining areas, shopping centres, or leisure venues, customer expectations now extend beyond appearance alone. Today’s consumers increasingly value authentic green spaces and environments that actively support biodiversity, making artificial planting feel less aligned with modern hospitality and retail experiences.

At Scotscape, we design and deliver living walls and wider urban greening systems that help retail and hospitality spaces feel more inviting. Whether you are aiming to improve footfall for your shopping centre or strengthen your sustainability credentials to meet BNG targets, we work with you to develop a solution that fits your operational needs.

Scotscape’s Green Solutions for Retail & Hospitality Venues

Scotscape’s solutions are designed to help retail and hospitality spaces create standout environments and deliver long-term environmental value across customer-facing settings:

Living Wall Installations

Our living walls are an impactful way to transform interiors or façades into memorable features. Whether installed in retail units, small hotels, restaurants, cafés, or leisure venues, they can help create a more inviting atmosphere in busy commercial spaces. At Scotscape, we design and install living wall systems built for long-term performance, while supporting wider sustainability goals.

Living Wall Maintenance

Scotscape provides ongoing living wall maintenance to keep plants healthy, systems functioning properly, and displays looking their best. This helps to protect your investment and maintain a consistently high standard for customers, guests, and visitors.

LivingPillars®

LivingPillars® are an innovative way to introduce vertical planting in more limited spaces, turning plain lamposts into something far more attractive. In hospitality and retail venues, they can help add visual interest and bring greenery into high-traffic areas without taking up any floor space.

Landscape Services

Scotscape provides wider landscaping solutions for retail and hospitality sites, helping create outdoor spaces that feel welcoming, well-designed, and easy to maintain. From interior planting to smart irrigation, our approach supports greener spaces that reflect your brand and create a better experience for customers and guests.

Our Retail & Hospitality Urban Greening Projects

Carnaby Living Wall

Carnaby Street Living Wall, City of London

Commissioned by Shaftesbury Capital PLC, Scotscape delivered a striking living wall installation above Carnaby Street that softened the impact of a new roof extension while reflecting the area’s iconic cultural heritage.

Designed in collaboration with Brimelow McSweeney Architects, the scheme used bold planting patterns inspired by 1960s Carnaby style, alongside shrub and tree planting to improve biodiversity and air quality. The project was carefully delivered within a busy retail environment, ensuring minimal disruption to pedestrian footfall and street-level trading.

Landscaping bedford hotel water feature entertainment

Hotel Living Wall Installation - Bedford Hotel, Bloomsbury

At the Bedford Hotel, Scotscape transformed the hotel’s external garden and interior reception spaces with a combination of landscaping and living wall installations.

Working alongside Trevillion Interiors and garden designer Paul Hensey, the project introduced new planting areas, feature seating, lighting, ivy screens, and a 25m² living wall to create a calmer, more ambient guest experience. An additional interior living wall in the reception area helped reinforce a peaceful and welcoming sense of arrival for visitors.

  • "Scotscape were great, they crammed an eight week project into one so that our jungle living wall would be up in time for The Jungle Book premiere"

    Sally Kemp

  • “I just wanted to reach out and give my gratitude for all the hard work you and your team put in, both in the lead-up and construction!! I know the build was a mission, to say the very least!

The green wall looks stunning and truly makes the space. I attended the opening evening, and it was certainly a discussion point! It has also had a lot of interest in the past week of normal opening, which is the positive outcome we all wanted!”

FAQs

Can Scotscape help choose the right solution for my property?

Yes, we can assess your site and recommend the most suitable solution for your space and operational needs.

Whether you are looking for a statement living wall or a wider planting scheme, we can help guide the right approach.

How much maintenance does a living wall need?

The level of maintenance depends on the system, location, and planting chosen, but living walls do require regular care to keep them looking their best.

Every Scotscape living wall system uses proprietary irrigation for straightforward plant care. As part of our maintenance package, we provide ongoing care to support plant health, irrigation performance, and long-term visual impact.

Can a living wall be maintained without disrupting guests or visitors?
Yes, we plan maintenance around your operational requirements to keep disruption to a minimum. For retail and hospitality sites, this can mean working outside trading hours or scheduling visits at quieter times.
Can Scotscape help with handover and long-term care?
Yes, Scotscape can support the handover process and provide long-term maintenance to help ensure your living wall continues to perform well after installation. This gives you confidence that the system will remain healthy and attractive over time.
How long does a living wall last?
A well-designed and well-maintained living wall can last for 25+ years, although this lifespan depends on the system type, planting, exposure, access, and ongoing care.
How much does a living wall cost?

The cost of a living wall will depend on factors such as the size of the installation, its location, planting design, irrigation requirements, access considerations, and the overall complexity of the project. For a more detailed breakdown, read our Living Wall Costs Guide.

Can living walls contribute to sustainability targets?

Yes, living walls can support wider sustainability and ESG objectives by improving biodiversity, contributing to urban greening initiatives, and helping create healthier environments for visitors, guests, and staff. They can also demonstrate a visible commitment to environmental improvement across retail and hospitality spaces.

Can living walls be installed on existing buildings?
In the majority of cases, yes. Our living walls can often be retrofitted onto existing buildings, depending on factors such as the structure, available access, and the requirements of the system being installed.
