The historic Cavalry and Guards Club based near Hyde Park in Central London has enlisted the Smartscape team to install this green wall which is constructed in four sections around a courtyard area. Designed to shield normal building services such as fire escapes, air conditioning and drainage, which were previously visible from the conservatory at the club, the living wall ensures that this space can look its best for clients to enjoy. Inspired by the requirement to make the most of the limited outside space David Cowdery the CEO and Club Secretary says ‘The Club terrace is our only outside space – and we have developed the new conservatory for smoking and outside dining – the green wall is to add a ‘garden’ feel to this location’.
Measuring 21.5m2 in total the living wall provides privacy in this courtyard for entertaining and events. Technically challenging, the green wall subframe is constructed in four sections to enable the installation to follow the lines of the original courtyard wall.
The planting plan shown here includes a wave design which seamlessly connects each section of the living wall together. The plant selection is site specific to ensure a thriving biodiverse project which includes colour and fragrance for customers of the Cavalry Club to enjoy.
