2014 Scotscape R&D department - Fytotextile multiple uses & applications

The brief

To explore a variety of structures and shapes on which to grow sustainable planting using fytotextile.

We attached the fytotextile to a Nissen Hut and a set of double gates

Nissen Hut

The result

Has demonstrated that the fytotextile can sustain planting from 0° to 90° and everything in between.

The project is irrigated but has received no nutrients.

Planted in 2014 and now left for Nature to manage, at time of writing, (October 2022) we have a wildflower meadow supporting much insect life

Gates

The result

Has demonstrated that the adaptable and lightweight nature of our fytotextile system allows for it to be used on moveable objects such as gates whilst supporting healthy planting.

The gates are irrigated but have received no nutrients

Planted in 2015, the gates have matured nicely at time of writing (2022).

Conclusion

With access to light and water, Fytotextile can be used to support sustainable planting on any shape and orientation.
